Since 2003, we’ve covered a range of premium denim lines to fit every body type and personality. While some brands we reviewed went the distance, others left their mark before fading into fashion history. Even with that, we’ve loved every stitch we’ve had the pleasure to pull on and pull up.
When it came to our attention that Danny Guez was launching a new denim line, especially as we featured People’s Liberation jeans and attended an L.A. Fashion Week launch for William Rast--both lines bearing his denim blue Midas Touch, we had to look further to see how Guez keeps the premium denim world going round. It was also intriguing to see what his next move was, given that he’s also put his stamp on lines for J. Crew, Pacific Sunwear, and American Eagle.
Behold, Dylan George, has entered the building, complete with a celebrity fan base (Carrie Underwood, Rumer Willis, Kate Beckinsale, Eva Longoria, Christina Aguilera, Alessandra Ambrosio, Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, Eva Mendes, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Alba, and Nicole Richie) and a claim to being a brand that sticks to “authenticity.” Having been in the business for a while, we know the “A” word gets bounced around a lot, so we needed to examine what authenticity actually means to Guez, and by extension, Dylan George.
As Guez aptly sees it, any good designer can make a pair of jeans that look good, but feeling good and comfortable in her (second) skin is key. Therefore what makes Dylan George not just fashionable but authentic to the individual wearing a pair is the fabrics, range of washes and distresses, as well as varying patterns of whiskering and zipper accented hems. While Guez has thrown a little innovation into the mix by taking the skinny jean trend from a few years ago into a new direction with jeggings (jeans + leggings = jeggings!), he also gets that what’s “in” is also in the eye of the beholder and the reality of the body type.
Dylan George jeans, in its multiplicity of fashionable options, is available locally at American Rag, H. Lorenzo, Planet Blue, Switch, Live on Sunset as well as the web site www.dylangeorge.com.
